Garlic contains allicin, which has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. It acts as a cleanser and helps treat acne and fungal skin conditions. Making a garlic mask as a chemical peel for the face is an option to treat acne or blemishes. Chemical peels help correct sun damage, reduce wrinkles, remove blackheads and reduce excessive skin oils, according to the DERMAdoctor website. Using garlic is not a substitute for medical treatment. Consult your healthcare provider to discuss potential risks.

Step 1

Peel the garlic cloves with a peeler or knife to remove the skin. Rub each clove against the finest side of the grater.

Step 2

Press the fat end of the spoon on the grated pieces of garlic while applying pressure and pulling the spoon toward your body to smear it in the bowl. This will form a fine paste and make it easier to spread on your face.

Step 3

Apply the thin layer of the garlic paste on your face using your fingers, but avoid getting the paste in your eyes, nose and mouth. Allow the paste to remain on your face for approximately 15 minutes.

Step 4

Place the lid on top of the bowl, and place the bowl in the refrigerator to save the remainder of the paste for any additional treatments.

Step 5

Wash your face with warm water to remove the garlic paste, and blot your face with a clean towel. Let your face air dry.

Step 6

Apply a moisturizer to your face to prevent your skin from drying out and to add moisture back into your skin from the treatment.
