Can You Use Lime Juice to Get Rid of Stretch Marks?

You'll do just about anything to get rid of the reddish-brown lines that appear on your breasts, buttocks, hips and torso during adolescence or pregnancy. These stretch marks, or striae, can fade, and sometimes disappear, over time -- but there is no known home remedy that can help you get rid them, reports the University of Maryland Medical Center. Lime juice, alone, or in conjunction with cocoa butter, is sometimes recommended as a treatment, but just like other remedies, there's no evidence that it's effective.

If lime juice were such an effective treatment, skin care companies would include it as a compound in creams designed to prevent or treat the marks and market them to make millions. As it is, no commercial topical treatments prevent the development of stretch marks. A 2012 issue of the "Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews" published a review of studies on creams' abilities to prevent striae and found none were effective. The University of Maryland Medical Center notes that no specific care for stretch marks once they form has been found either.
