Alcohol calories can really add up, as each gram of alcohol contains 7 calories, which is more than the 4 calories per gram in carbohydrates and protein but less than the 9 calories per gram in fat. Regular brandy is lower in calories than flavored versions, and an ounce of straight brandy is often lower in calories than a mixed drink containing brandy. The publication "Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010" recommends limiting alcohol consumption to no more than one drink per day for women or two drinks per day for men. This is considered moderate alcohol consumption.

Make that an ounce of apricot brandy, and you'll be consuming about 80 calories, and fruit-flavored brandy liqueurs can have up to 130 calories per 1.5 ounces. A 2.5-ounce Brandy Alexander -- made with brandy, creme de cacao, cream and nutmeg -- has about 180 calories, as does a 4-ounce Brandy Old Fashioned made with brandy, water, sugar and Angostura bitter.
