Julia Louis-Dreyfus revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer, breaking the news via a tweet posted on September 28.

“1 in 8 women get breast cancer. Today, I’m the one,” Louis-Dreyfus wrote on her official account. “The good news is that I have the most glorious group of supportive and caring family and friends.”

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the 56-year-old star was diagnosed one day after taking home her sixth consecutive best actress in a comedy series Emmy Award for her role as Selina Meyer in “Veep.” While Louis-Dreyfus did not offer any additional information regarding her diagnosis, her publicist told the Associated Press that she “is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support and well wishes.”

During her reveal, the Emmy-winning actress took an opportunity to address her good fortune, mentioning her “fantastic insurance” through her union. “The bad news is that not all women are so lucky, so let’s fight all cancers and make universal health care a reality,” she wrote. Amen.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, regardless of race and ethnicity. The most recent data from 2014 shows nearly 237,000 women and 2,150 men diagnosed. Breast cancer can result from the deregulation of the growth cycle in the breast’s various cell types.

Louis-Dreyfus has already received an abundance of support, including from HBO, “Veep’s” broadcasting network. “Our love and support go out to Julia and her family at this time,” the network said in a statement. “We have every confidence she will get through this with her unusual tenacity and undaunted spirit.”

The actress’s “Veep” co-stars and other celebrities also sent their best wishes, and Christina Applegate, who won her own fight against breast cancer, urged Louis-Dreyfus to use her as moral support.

From Angelina Jolie and Robin Roberts to Shannen Doherty and Hugh Jackman, celebrities have won battles and been vocal about a multitude of cancers, serving as a reminder to always be aware of your body and get checked as soon as something seems off.

We wish Louis-Dreyfus the best during this difficult time and look forward to seeing her on the small screen for the final season of “Veep.”
