Emily Blunt is revealing the secret to how she and John Krasinski meshed while working on their first film together — the upcoming thriller “A Quiet Place” — and her words could definitely double as solid relationship advice.
“We really trust each other. We’re very honest with each other,” Blunt tells E! News. “We sort of have a shorthand and secret language that ultimately is gonna work for us.” Um, how does one get their hands on a dictionary for the Blunt-Krasinski secret language? Asking for a friend.
When the pair met back in 2008, Krasinski was immediately lovestruck, awkwardly confessing that he liked her during their first handshake. They married a year later and have been together ever since, so when Krasinski and Blunt finally had the opportunity to star in a film together, they were understandably apprehensive.
“You don’t know how your two processes are going to work together,” 35-year-old Blunt says. “It’s like a different thing when you’re at work. You take on a different persona.”
But people who love Blunt and Krasinski will be relieved to know that their chemistry is just as amazing on the set as it is at home — because they get to acknowledge and appreciate the professional side of their lives as well as the personal.
“I’m a huge fan of him, obviously, but we quickly realized how collaborative we were together, and we actually worked really, really well together,” Blunt says.
When you work with your significant other, it can be easy to let your work life bleed into your personal life, but Blunt and Krasinski have the perfect distraction waiting for them at home: their daughters, Hazel, 4, and Violet, 2. “I have no choice but to engage with these amazing people,” she says.
The icing on this layer cake of love? Not only was “A Quiet Place” a great experience for the couple, it’s also getting incredible feedback. Directed and co-written by Krasinski, the movie has received rave reviews from critics and is currently 100 percent Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Which is pretty freaking impressive!
If you want to see Krasinski and Blunt’s on-screen magic for yourself (and aren’t afraid of insanely creepy R-rated movies), it’ll be hitting theaters nationwide on April 6.
