Blistex produces a range of products that contain ingredients that vary from moisture-rich emollients such as castor oil and lanolin to lip-soothing medications such as camphor. Because different formulas of Blistex lip balms have specialized ingredients, it’s best to read the label to make sure your lip balm contains the ingredients that best suit your needs. Sore, cracked lips benefit from medicated formulas, while normal lips may only need moisturizers.

Medicated Ingredients

If your lips are irritated, chapped and sore, Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment is a good choice because it contains pain-relieving ingredients such as camphor, menthol and phenol, which disinfects and kills germs that may cause irritation. Blistex Medicated Lip Balm doesn't have pain relievers, but it does contain dimethicone to protect lips, along with sunscreens such as oxybenzone and padimate.

Moisturizing and Soothing Ingredients

One of the chief functions of lip balm is to hydrate the skin on your lips. Blistex Medicated Lip Balm also contains beeswax, cocoa seed butter and lanolin to moisturize lips and protect them from becoming chapped. In addition to medicated lip balms, Blistex also offers specialty balms such as Blistex Herbal Answer, which contains chamomile to soothe, avocado to rejuvenate, jojoba to soften and shea butter to moisturize dry or chapped lips.
