Natural Fat Burner Foods
Grapefruit is a popular choice among fat-burning foods.

Most people think of eating as a way to increase fat in the body, not lose it. But there are foods that have properties that cause them to burn fat as they're ingested. Include these foods in your regular diet and enjoy them knowing that you’re burning calories as you eat.

Video of the Day

Including oats in your diet is an option when trying to fight fat while eating. Oats are rich in fiber, which improves metabolism. Oats also digest slowly, keeping insulin production down. High insulin levels trigger your body to hold on to fat. Having oats for breakfast can increase your calorie burn for the day.

Milk is another big calorie burner. Milk contains calcium and complex carbohydrates, which kick the metabolism into action. According to a study at the University of Tennessee, people who were dieting and consumed 1,200 to 1,300 mg of calcium daily lost almost twice as much weight as those who had less calcium in their diets.

Many people drink coffee to jump start their day. The caffeine in coffee, which is a stimulant, can actually jump start your metabolism as well. It can also help you burn up to 10 percent more calories than normal.

If you can stand the heat, try jalapeños as a fat-burning food. They contain capsaicin, a chemical that increases your heart rate and the metabolism. Add jalapeños to eggs, salads or sandwiches for a calorie-burning kick.

According to research at the University of Florida, grapefruit is a great diet food because it helps to dissolve fat and cholesterol. It’s packed with pectin, which is a type of fiber that lowers cholesterol and fat. It’s also high in vitamin C and potassium. Make grapefruit a regular addition to your breakfast and burn fat.

Salmon is another fat-burning food option. It contains “good fats” called Omega-3 fatty acids, which lower the level of leptin on your body. Leptin is a hormone that influences your metabolism and determines whether calories are burned or turned into fat. Lower leptin levels result in more calories used for energy.
