A major consumer brand in U.S. supermarkets, Ocean Spray specializes in cranberry-based juices, snacks, sauces, cereals and fresh produce. The company’s beverage line includes blended juice drinks, energy drinks and 100 percent juices, usually containing cranberry, blueberry, citrus or other fruit juice. Its flagship product, Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail, debuted in 1930 and is available year-round. According to, some vitamins and compounds in cranberry juice may ward off infections and age-related illnesses.

Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail contains just four ingredients. Filtered water is the first and most plentiful ingredient listed on the product label, followed by cranberry juice concentrate -- the two combine to form the juice. Because cranberries are naturally quite tart, beet or cane sugar is appears third in the ingredient list as sweeteners. Ascorbic acid, or vitamin C, is the fourth and last ingredient.

Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail is cholesterol- and fat-free, and contains very low sodium. An 8-oz. glass boasts 109 calories, with its 28g of carbohydrates coming mainly from sugars—almost 18g per 8-oz. serving. The same serving offers less than 1g of either protein or fiber.

Vitamin C Content

Cranberries are high in ascorbic acid, or vitamin C. One 8-oz. glass of Ocean Spray juice contains 68mg of vitamin C. According to, vitamin C is an essential ingredient in the formation of collagen in bones, cartilage, blood vessels and muscle, as well as in the absorption of iron.

Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice Cocktail with Calcium provides additional calcium per 8-oz. serving as compared to the original product. Diet Cranberry Juice Drink, on the other hand, subtracts the sugar content from the original formula and contains only 5 calories per 8-oz. serving.

Health Benefits

According to, cranberry juice seems to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections in women. Though more research is needed into its beneficial properties, drinking cranberry juice may fight off infections in women prone to UTIs. Cranberry juice’s high antioxidant levels may also slow the onset of age-related illnesses such as cancer and heart disease. Don’t drink any type of cranberry juice if you take the blood-thinning medication warfarin due to the risk of bleeding.
