How Many Calories Does a Chai Tea Latte Have?

A chai tea latte is made with a black tea blended with spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, ginger and cloves. A chai latte is similar to regular chai tea except that is topped with extra steamed milk. Iced varieties are cooled and blended with crushed ice. How many calories you get in each drink depends on the type and amount of milk, flavoring, topping and sweetener added.

Chai Tea Latte Calories

A 16-ounce iced chai tea latte from Starbucks has 240 calories, according to their website. This iced drink also has 4 grams of total fat, 15 milligrams of cholesterol and 44 grams of total carbohydrates including sugar. If you add extra sugar or toppings such as whipped cream or chocolate syrup, you will increase the calories in your drink.

Calories in Milk

Most chai tea lattes contain about a quarter-cup of milk and the type of milk used makes a difference in how many calories you get. The USDA Nutrient Database notes that a cup of whole milk, which is 3.25 percent fat contains 149 calories. This includes the calories from 7.93 grams of total fat, 11.71 grams of carbohydrates and 12.32 grams total sugar per cup. In comparison, a cup of low-fat milk with 1 percent fat contains 102 calories from 2.37 grams total fat, 12.18 grams carbohydrates and 12.69 grams total sugar.
