Garlic, the bulb taken from the root of the garlic plant, is a common medicinal supplement and a flavor enhancer in food. Easily accessible and cheap, you can incorporate garlic and garlic salt into sauces, soups, salads and other dishes, or you can take garlic and its derivatives separately as a dietary supplement.

Reduced Cholesterol

One benefit of garlic salt consumption is reduced serum cholesterol. Your blood cholesterol is made up of two different families of compounds, called low-density lipoproteins, LDLs, and high-density lipoprotein, HDLs. Over time, chronically high levels of LDLs in the blood can lead to a narrowing of your arteries, a condition called atherosclerosis. Garlic consumption can decrease harmful LDLs, while raising the levels of beneficial HDL cholesterol. As a result, regular garlic consumption can prevent dangerous narrowing of blood vessels and prevent cardiovascular disease.

Reduced Blood Pressure

Consuming garlic in many forms, including garlic salt, can reduce blood pressure. Chronically high blood pressure, a condition called hypertension, leads to increased strain on your blood vessels and heart. Garlic acts as a vasodilator. The compounds in garlic cause your blood vessels to relax, lowering your blood pressure. Eating garlic, such as in the form of garlic salt, can help you control your blood pressure, which could aid in preventing disease. If you suffer from high or low blood pressure, always consult with a physician to ensure that garlic is safe for you.

Increased Immunity

Garlic can also help boost your immune system. Regular garlic supplementation can prove effective in fighting off mild infections, like the common cold. In addition, garlic can boost your immune system to help your body fight off diseases such as cancer. Supplementation with garlic was able to boost the immune system in patients with inoperable cancer, while people who consume garlic have a lower risk of developing colon cancer. If you have a personal or family history of cancer, consider consuming garlic salt, along with other garlic products, to help your body fight cancer development.
