Vinegar is versatile and has several uses besides cooking. Vinegar is used for cleaning, pest control and as an alternative treatment for some health conditions. Vinegar, specifically apple cider vinegar, has been purported to lower glucose levels, increase metabolism, lower cholesterol and relieve arthritic pain. Salt and vinegar is most famously mixed to make seasoned potato chips or french fries, and mixing vinegar and salt water is a home remedy for sore throats.

Mix 2 tbsp. of white distilled vinegar into an 8 oz. glass of warm water.
Include salt to the mixture. Add 1 tsp. of salt into your water.
Stir completely. Gargle with the mixture several times a day to ease a sore throat.
Apply the salt water and vinegar mixture to cuts and bruises in order to speed up healing. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, vinegar has antimicrobial properties.
