How to Bake Pears With Honey
Firm, ripe pears work best for baking.

Whole pears get a culinary makeover when baked with honey. The texture of the pear goes from firm to soft as it bakes with the honey and juices. The result is a tender, sweet pear you can eat any time of day. Pair the baked fruit with yogurt and granola for a breakfast dish. Top it with ice cream or frozen yogurt sprinkled with roasted nuts and caramel sauce for dessert. Even plain, the baked pear offers a healthy, sweet snack option.

Step 1

Wash and pat dry four pears. Peel the pears. Cut away the core at the bottom of the pears using a sharp paring knife, and cut the bottom flat if necessary so the pears will stand upright.

Step 2

Drizzle the pears with lemon juice to avoid browning. Grease a baking dish with butter to prevent the pears from sticking. Arrange the pears in the pan with space between each fruit.

Step 3

Drizzle 2 tbsp. of melted butter evenly over the pears. Drizzle 2 to 3 tbsp. of honey on the pears. Sprinkle 2 to 3 tbsp. of brown sugar, a dash of cinnamon and a dash of ground ginger on the pears.

Step 4

Bake the whole, honey-drizzled pears in a 375-degree Fahrenheit oven for 45 minutes to an hour. Drizzle the juices that collect in the pan on top of the pears every 10 to 15 minutes while they bake. Press a fork or knife into the pears to see how tender they are.

Step 5

Cool the pears for five to 10 minutes before transferring them to serving dishes. Drizzle the pears with the baking juices right before serving. Scoop a side of ice cream or yogurt, or serve the pears plain.
