Some families want to choose the gender of a child. Although natural gender selection is by no means a guaranteed method of getting the desired sex, it can raise the odds from about 50 percent for either sex, to as high as 80 percent, reports Childbirth.org. Choosing the foods to eat around the time of conception is an important part of this method, although not the only one. The odds of conceiving a boy can also be increased by timing intercourse for the day before or day of ovulation rather than earlier. The theory behind diet playing a part in natural gender selection is that the sperm that will make boy babies are more fragile and unstable than sperm that will make girls. If the vaginal tract is too acidic, sperm for males might not survive, so opting for alkaline foods over acidic foods is suggested.

Although most fruits are good for trying to conceive a boy, blueberries should be avoided at this time, states Predictingbabygender.org. All other berries are fine, but blueberries are too acidic.
It is thought that eating at least the recommended minimum daily calories for your height and body type can increase the chances of conceiving a boy. This is not the time for cutting calories from the diet.
According to Fertilitychicago.org, dairy products should be kept to a minimum or eliminated all together when trying to conceive a boy. These products include, milk, yogurt, cream-based dips or soups, and cheeses.
Corn or Wheat Products
These foods should tend to be acidic and can be more useful for conceiving a girl. Commonly, wheat is found in many breads and pasta, so be sure to check the ingredient list before consuming.
Both caffeine and coffee itself can improve the odds of having a boy. Childbirth.org recommends regular coffee for men hoping to father boys, so skip the decaf.
