Peanuts are the hard seeds of a type of legume, which are often served roasted and removed from the shell. Containing substantial amounts of carbohydrates, proteins and fats, a serving of peanuts is high in calories.

Most of these calories come from fats -- approximately 630 calories of the 1-cup serving. Proteins deliver approximately 152 calories and carbohydrates contribute around 108 calories per serving.
Total Caloric Intake
Based on a standard 2,000 calorie per day diet, a 1-cup serving of shelled peanuts contains around 45 percent of the recommended caloric intake for the average adult per day.
The USDA also states that a 1-cup serving of shelled peanuts weighs around 146 grams. Around 70 g of that serving are fats. Proteins contribute 38 g, while carbohydrates make up around 27 g of the serving. The remaining portion is indigestible matter, other nutrients and water.
Peanuts also provide certain vitamins including niacin, folate, thiamin, pantothenic acid and vitamin B-6. Additionally, peanuts contain dietary minerals such as manganese, potassium, copper, phosphorous and magnesium.
