As an alternative to boiling or steaming cabbage, you can try this delicious vegetable prepared on your gas grill. Cabbage is low in calories and packed with essential vitamins and nutrients. One cup of raw cabbage contains 22 calories, 2.2 g of fiber, 36 mg of calcium and 32.6 mg of vitamin C. You’ll need to prepare the cabbage ahead of time to prevent losing and burning leaves on your gas grill.

Wash the cabbage in cold water. Remove any loose leaves on the head of the cabbage.
Cut an entire head of cabbage to prepare it for grilling. Cut from the bottom of the cabbage at the core. Cut into four quarters or eighths depending on how large you want your servings to be. The core left in the center of each section will help keep the cabbage together once you begin grilling.
Preheat your gas grill. Light half of the burners. You should keep the grill between 350 and 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Season the cabbage. The bland flavor of cabbage gives you plenty of options for seasoning before grilling. Consider butter, olive oil, lemon juice, salt pepper, onion and garlic.
Cook the cabbage on indirect heat. Avoid cooking the cabbage directly on high heat on your grill since that will likely burn the exterior of the cabbage and leave the inner core undercooked. Use aluminum foil to avoid placing the cabbage directly on the grill. You can either wrap the cabbage in the foil or make a 3-inch diameter ring with the foil and place the cabbage on top of it.
Cover the grill and leave until the cabbage is tender. Grilling time should be approximately 20 to 30 minutes. Remove from the grill and serve immediately.
