Using Shake 'N Bake can help you reduce the fat content of chicken Parmesan.

Shake 'N Bake is a type of coating product manufactured by Kraft Foods. Instead of using bread crumbs to coat chicken and other types of meat, use Shake 'N Bake instead. Shake 'N Bake is made with a blend of herbs, spices and bread crumbs. Although you may find multiple varieties of Shake 'N Bake in the store, choose the Original Chicken flavor to make chicken Parmesan.

Before you use Shake 'N Bake for your chicken Parmesan, trim off any excess skin and fat from the breasts. If you have purchased thick cuts of chicken, thin out the chicken before coating with the breading. To do this, wrap each chicken breast in plastic wrap. Hammer each piece with a mallet or rolling pin until the breasts reach the desired thickness.


Next, coat the chicken with the Shake 'N Bake mixture. Moisten each piece of chicken breast with a small amount of water. Add one piece of chicken to the included shaker bag with one Shake 'N Bake coating packet. Shake each piece of chicken in the bag for five to 10 seconds to coat. Repeat the process until all chicken breasts are coated with the breading. Discard the shaker bag and any leftover coating.


Unlike traditional recipes where you add the sauce and cheese ahead of time, in this recipe, you'll bake the chicken uncovered for approximately 20 minutes without any of the toppings. Spray a baking dish with nonstick cooking spray. Arrange the chicken breasts in the baking dish and place in the oven. For the last five minutes of cooking, add one jar of spaghetti or marinara sauce over the chicken. Top the sauce with 1 ½ cups of shredded mozzarella cheese and ¼ cup Parmesan cheese.


Since you are not frying the chicken for the Shake 'N Bake recipe, the fat and calorie content of the meal is reduced. According to Kraft Foods, each serving contains 320 calories and 12 g fat. To reduce the fat and calories even further, use low-fat or fat-free cheese varieties.
